Improving teams' productivity with Trello & Google Agenda

In this project, I begin with a personal belief that integration between software tools that professionals use every day should be better than the current capabilities. After discussing this with colleagues, an example that a few of us share is the integration of Trello with Google Calendar. Currently, there is no official method to connect the two and manage tasks seamlessly in a calendar view.

This is the challenge I have chosen! Therefore, let's begin by identifying our final users and crafting the right persona.

User research

"How can we achieve a seamless integration of Trello with Google Calendar to enable easy viewing and modification of tasks in both tools, in real-time?"

Based on the preceding business challenge, I chose professionals from marketing teams to conduct a brief series of user interviews. From their feedback, I developed the following persona:

Marianne

  • active woman, 29 years old

  • small managerial role of 3 people in a medium sized company

  • is very organized and likes to be on top of her own things

  • is learning how to manage teams

  • has a trust based management style that works through transparency of deadlines & progress in the team

Motivations:

  • efficiency

  • inter-connectivity between her existing tools : G Suite & Trello

  • collaboration features

  • simplicity in editing and moving things around

  • roles & permissions

Show stoppers:

  • needing to change existing stack

  • compatibility problems/poor offline modes that lead to updating issues

Conception

The conception phase began with a precise analysis of the interfaces of Trello and Google Calendar. I began by examining the various parameters available when creating a Trello card and the information provided in a Google Calendar meeting. Afterward, I organized elements based on a simple priority guide, which helped identifying the screens required for the initial user flow.

Wireframing

Following the priority guide, I began working on the wireframing stage. The objective of the wireframe is to establish an initial framework for the process of connecting Trello with Google Calendar and subsequently editing a Trello card's deadline directly from the calendar interface. This wireframe and prototype will undergo rounds of user testing.

With this wireframe, I will run sessions of user testing, improve what we have, and then start building a higher resolution prototype ! Stay tuned.
